A new Patriots tradition was introduced at the start of our 2023 season, and it’s deeply rooted in New England’s history.
When the Kraft family and Gillette Stadium officials began the $250 million renovation of the north endzone, they reimagined the stadium’s iconic lighthouse as a modern 22-story structure. The new lighthouse includes a 360-degree observation deck, offering fans a stunning view year-round, along with an added twist.
The New England region is dotted with historic lighthouses that have long served as navigational markers, their fog bells sounding to warn ships of poor visibility, rocky waters, and other hazards. The first known fog bell in the United States was placed at the Beavertail Lighthouse in Rhode Island in 1829. Today, a new fog bell takes its place at Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady served as our inaugural Keeper of the Light, ringing the bell to kick off our 2023 season. With this tradition now in place, we look forward to many more bell ringers in the seasons to come.
